Films centered around themes with angry heroes, characterized by fights and idealistic romances was the norm once.
But cinema has evolved and so has the audience. Breaking away from this tested formula and keeping in tune with the changing mindset of the audience is the much awaited romantic drama, “ 180″, starring Siddarth, Priya Anand and Nithya Menen. With the crux of the film focusing on bringing out the true essence of its three main characters, „180″ promises a slick, metro centric look and feel.
The film has been shot in the US, Malaysia, Chennai and Hyderabad and is characterized by stunning visuals, thanks to director Jayendra’s vision, which was executed by acclaimed cinematographer, Balasubramaniam.
The film, produced by Sathyam Cinemas and Aghal Films, is ad guru Jayendra’s directorial debut. There has been a lot of speculation about the story and the meaning of the title, „180″. But one thing is for sure, the film has a slick, urban look that sets it apart.
But does it not concern the director that a film so different from the current formula might take a while to find favour with audiences? „This is a film for a universal audience. With the growth of satellite television, more and more English movies are being dubbed in regional languages, owing to which there is no real segregation in the audiences today. People are beginning to have a more universal outlook on things. This is the appeal of the film,“ says a confident Jayendra, who has shot the entire film on the „Red“ digital camera except for the „Ee Vayasikaraadhu“ song, which was shot with the Phantom Flex camera to capture the magic of each moment in ultra slow motion. „It is a beautiful film that requires a certain level of sophistication from the audience and I think our viewers definitely has that,“ says an eager and hopeful Siddharth.
With its urban look, catchy music and beautiful cinematography, the audiences are in for a treat. „180″ will hit the screens on June 25.
